“ Delicious spicy food! Came here to celebrate a family friend's birthday so we reserved a room in the back. It comes with a karaoke machine. The host of our party ordered a gigantic spread of items from the menu. I'd say I enjoyed 80% of the food ordered. Everything was fragrant and flavorful. The boss came into our room to wish our family friend happy birthday and gave us a free red bean soup dessert and a huge free bowl of noodle soup. Very kind of her! ”
“ If you're looking for spicy and numbing food, this is the place for you! There are some reviews complaining about the service, but I didn't think it was any different from a typical, authentic Asian restaurant. You might have to flag down an employee multiple times for help, but the requested item eventually shows up haha. Dry Braised Pot with Lotus Root ($18): I'm glad we got this because even though it was spicy, it was the mildest one and was a nice contrast to everything else. The flavor was really good and not too salty. Definitely one of my favorite vegetables to get at a spicy place! Stinky Tofu Fried with Pork ($18.99): My favorite dish that we got! I've always really enjoyed stinky tofu and this one definitely had a good funk to it. I enjoyed all the aromatics and additions to the dish (peanuts, scallions, bell peppers, etc.) too. Pork Intestine Casserole ($18.99): I've never had pork intestine before, but I ended up really enjoying it in this casserole. It's a bit chewy and retained a lot of the flavor from the stew. There's a good amount of numbing spice in here and it paired well with the tofu. Bandit Lamb Casserole with Numbing Broth ($32.99): I was most excited for this dish, but ended up being disappointed. It's really just a bunch of lamb slices and some vermicelli noodles in a spicy broth, which I thought wasn't worth the price. The good part is that there's so much broth that we were able to take it home and make our own hot pot with it. ”
“ Spices is an interesting restaurant. It's specialties are spicy foods from southern China(normally cooked by bandits). We go there every other two years just to check things out. Two dishes were ordered, i.e., lotus root hot pot, and onion beef. They all tasted good. Hot pot was mild spicy, and both were not as salty as before. The atmosphere was lively due to constant singing from a karaoke room in the back. ”
“ Surprised at how much I liked the veggie dishes better than the meat! The Kung pao chicken was too sweet and the hot n sour soup was a bit too salty/vinegar-y. I really enjoyed the map tofu (not pictured), wonton in red oil, and string beans. Would go back for those veggie dishes and would like to try another chicken besides Kung Pao! Skip the vegetarian fried rice, it's nothing special. ”
“ This restaurant just recently reopened after COVID-19. It has take out and indoor dining. The restaurant is medium size and it is busy. Overall tHe food is good and you can ask to it adjust spicy level, which is good. We ordered the following: 1.) Spicy Whole Fish With Tofu - The fish is great. The spicy sauce is not too spicy and just the right level of spicy level. The fish is very fresh and and has great seasoning. The fish is pretty big and the layer with tons of tofu underneath. The soft tofu goes very well with the fresh fish in texture and taste. I would recommend this dish who like whole fish! 2.) Dry Braised String Beans - The green beans is fresh and well braised, but it is kind of on the salty end. The overall taste is good, but it is hard to eat by itself without rice due to its saltiness. 3.) Pork Kidney with Hunan Spicy Sauce - This is an appetizer dish. The pork kidney is very fresh and texture is crispy while tight bit of chewiness to it. The spicy level for this dish is on the spicy side, but it is tasty and good. It give you sense of numbness to your tongue after you ate it for a shorty while which is typical of the hunan type of spicy you will taste. I would recommend this appetizer! 4.) Pig intestines with dry bamboo - This is another great dish. The dry bamboo is crispy, crunchy with great seasoning. The pig intestine are well cooked with just the right amount of crispness outside. The overall spicy level is good and taste is very balanced. ”
“ This is one of my favorite local Hunan/Sichuan restaurants. The dishes taste fantastic, service is very friendly, and interior is spacious and comfortable. I've dined multiple times in store as well as picked up to-go during stay in place orders. FOOD The dry pots are delicious as well as the spicy tendon and wonton appetizers. My favorites so far are the Mongolian beef and hot and sour soup. Sooo good! I've also tried the fish and tofu which wasn't my favorite, but I do know it's one of the most popular. The tan tan (Dan dan) noodles were OK, but I wish there was chili oil, crushed peanuts, and pickled mustard greens included. To the Spices chef, consider adding those toppings to the noodles! They'll be a hit if you do! I'll continue to come back to try the braised pork with buns and try more of their extensive menu. Please support this local business! ”
“ This spot is one of my favorites when craving Sichuan and Taiwanese spicy food. For my top dishes, I think they make a killer stinky tofu here as well as sweet and sour fried fish filet. I highly recommend ordering any of the spicy items here as they won't disappoint, whether that's the Pork Intestine w/ 4 Season Chilies, Wontons in Red Oil, Dry Braised Pot with Cauliflower, etc. We ordered a ton of food. Besides the Sweet and Sour Fish Filet, Pork Intestine w/ 4 Season Chilies, Wontons in Red Oil, Dry Braised Pot with Cauliflower, we also ordered Shanghai spareribs, Numbing Spicy! Beef Combo, Vegetable Mixed w/ Tofu Skin Pop Fried w/ Cumin Spices, a bean curd dish stir fried with ground pork, and a pot of stinky tofu + pork blood + pork intestines in a spicy stew. I highly recommend this place as everything tastes delicious and full of spices. You'll want lots of white rice to go with all of the dishes. The sweet and sour fried fish filet is the best I've had and is a good option when you want something that's not spicy. See photos for pictures of the glorious spread. ”
